Secondhand Clothes?
The average person in the US throws away 70 lbs of clothing each year – that’s over 25 billion lbs of clothing going to the landfill. Most of us only wear our clothes an average of 7 times before throwing them out.
But by re-wearing, reusing, and recycling clothing, we save precious natural resources, reduce pollution, and reduce waste. Every item of clothing saved is good for our planet and its people.
Reuse Saves Water
Every t-shirt made uses 2,700 liters of water and releases chemical pesticides that pollute the environment. Garson & Shaw saves the equivalent of 600 million t-shirts each year.
Reuse Reduces CO2 Emissions
For every pound of cotton manufactured, 15 lbs of CO2 are released into the atmosphere. Buying secondhand reduces the demand for this manufacture, eliminating these emissions.
Reuse Reduces Waste
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the US generates 25 billion lbs of textile waste yearly. Giving clothes the longest life possible keeps them out of the trash and away from landfills.
Reuse Supports Livelihoods
Over 70% of the world’s population wears secondhand clothing. Reusing clothes creates green jobs and happy customers worldwide.
