Emphasizing in Recycling is vital for net zero promises of COP26 since the war between Russia and Ukraine began
The GRF said the threat to fuel supplies from Russia with the war in Ukraine means net zero promises are under threat and a reevaluation must happen. It is “essential we put greater effort into recycling”. Recycling can reduce emissions as the western governments search for fuel alternatives. Therefore, recycling is vital for net zero promises of COP26 to remain true and prevent further climate change.
While the whole of Europe faces up to severe disruption in oil and gas supplies and rising prices, we must make better use of readily available resources, and nothing is more readily available than the growing waste stream. Looking ahead, we need to accelerate investment and research over the next five years into green hydrogen which is generated entirely by renewable energy.
These are the net zero promises from COP26 :
-
Secure global net zero by mid-century and keep 1.5 degrees within reach
Countries are being asked to come forward with ambitious 2030 emissions reductions targets that align with reaching net zero by the middle of the century.
To deliver on these stretching targets, countries will need to:
- accelerate the phase-out of coal
- curtail deforestation
- speed up the switch to electric vehicles
- encourage investment in renewables
-
Adapt to protect communities and natural habitats
-
Mobilise finance
-
Work together to deliver
