World Health Day
April 7
On April 7, the World Health Organization (WHO) wants everyone to focus on the actions we all have to take in order to keep us and the planet healthy. They also want us to focus on ways to create well-being societies. An estimated 13 million deaths around the globe happen each year due to environmental causes that can be avoided, according to WHO. Climate crisis is the biggest threat to humanity and is considered a health crisis as well.
Burning fossil fuels produces unhealthy breathing air for humanity and it’s estimated that 90% of people breathe unhealthy air. Unhealthy air due to fossil fuel burning results in asthma among other diseases. Plastics are found in the ocean and in the mountains which means our food chain is impacted by the plastic pollution. As a matter of fact, scientists have found microplastics to be present in human blood. 17 out of 22 human blood samples contained microplastics and all these people are considered to be “healthy”.
The pandemic has revealed weaknesses in all areas of society and underlined the urgency of creating sustainable well-being societies committed to achieving equitable health now and for future generations without breaching ecological limits. . .
A well-being economy has human well-being, equity and ecological sustainability as its goals.
At Garson & Shaw, we are committed to environmental stewardship through textile reuse and recycling. By re-wearing, reusing, and recycling clothing, we save precious natural resources, reduce pollution, and keep waste out of landfills. Every item of clothing saved is good for our planet and therefore good for our health.
